I style photo shoots as part of my job so I get to see top make-up artists at work all the time, and I can safely say that Julie from The Make-up Studio is definitely among them. She did my bridal make-up and the application was seriously flawless and with my acne prone skin that is no easy feat! While on the pricey side, the result was totally worth it. She uses the airbrush method, which is the preferred method for high definition TV because it doesn’t show steaks or look cakey, but still gives great coverage. The look is natural, polished and most importantly lasts all day (without getting greasy and shiny). I liked the finished look way better than any previous professional make-up application I’ve had. I find products like Mac, which many artists use, look caked on and greasy, especially by the end of the day. That could just be my skin though!

I also found the girls in The Make-up Studio really easy to work with. They were very accommodating to my unique situation (the whole planning a wedding from abroad thing). With the hustle and bustle of the wedding day, the 2 hours I spent at the Studio were like bliss!

In short, I think that airbrushing is perfect for the long, picture filled wedding day. I can’t recommend Julie or the method more highly. The adorable Studio is right downtown, on Bernard.

My Wedding at the Davenport Hotel

Since I want this to be a place for real brides to show their real wedding and share their real experiences. I decided I would go first, after all I was a bride who had a wedding and am willing to tell my story! My husband Mark and I were married on October 24, 2009. I hope to write reviews of each vendor personally, but for now I will just give the basics.

Venue: We were married at the Davenport Hotel. The number 1 misconception about the Davenport, is that it is out of this world expensive…yes, it’s pricey but it’s not nearly as expensive as you might think. And you get the peace of mind of knowing that the service will be good, the food excellent and the location…well you can’t really beat it. Megan Kasper was our coordinator. If I am completely honest, we found her a tad difficult in the planning stages before the wedding. I had to tell her things a couple times and since I was abroad my sisters met with her and she didn’t seem to remember what they said half the time either…BUT when the wedding day came, the girl was amazing. She bent over backwards to help us with anything and everything, and the day went flawlessly.

Photographer: Angie Azzinarro of Joyful Wedding Photography was our photographer and she was perfect! Our photos were amazing and the service we got was unparalleled. She arrived at our wedding at 11am and stayed right through the reception; she was discreet and professional so we hardly noticed she was there. I work with a lot of photographers and it can be hard to find one that is the complete package of both quality work and customer service, but Angie is definitely both!

Make-up: I work with make-up artists at photo shoots all the time. I thought I had seen breathtaking transformations…until I went to The Make-up Studio downtown…wow! The girls use air brushing technology (do you say ‘technology’ when talking about make-up???).Julie did such an amazing job. And even though it was a tad on the pricey side, it was money well spent (actually it was a gift to me, but their money was definitely well spent!)

Florist: Esther from Special Touch Florist on Nevada did our flowers. I wanted 100% hydrangeas and that’s what she gave us. Esther is by far the most reasonably priced florist I’ve ever come across. The flowers for my wedding were amazing, especially for what we paid.
